One can only imagine what a husband is to the woman of his desire. Who is the perfect husband?
In the day and age we live today, there are many shortcomings faced during a marriage. Most of which can only be learned in practice. I have had many glimpse experiences of what a marriage requires. Some of which all point to one word which is 'patience'.
There is a rather charming book written by Jilly Cooper who is renowned to be author of sordid sex stories by readers alike. The story of 'Riders' is rather intriguing and quite witty. You have a tale of 2 respectable men, one whom the word respectable is only measured by means of posh upbringing and very spoilt tendencies. The other a hard working stable boy whom married rich and succeeded in qualifying for the England Team in international show jumping. The whole epic is predominantly based on the choices in life that one has to take.
Rupert Campbell Black was born in England and raised by a wealthy family of aristrocrats. His parents were never around to see to him and thus was brought up by his nanny. He grew up to be a man of astounding skills when it came to mesmerizing women. Most would literally sink in to his whim and fancies whenever he wanted them. His best friend and childhood partner,William came to play for England in the same sport. Throughout their life, hardship was a word kept in the English Dictionary.
Jack Lovell was the complete opposite. He grew up with nothing except the desire to succeed. He had the chance to attend prep school and found out he did'nt fit in. He was shoved over a window in prep school by Rupert Campbell Black and his accomplices. The fall he suffered did not only cause him phycical injury but a severe mental blow that represents a stigma in his mind to date. Countless sleepless nights of the same episode haunted Jack from prep school right through marriage with the love of his life. He has always had problems with confidence as a result.
As you can see, both characters are very far apart indeed in terms of upbringing. However, their lives crossed each other time and time again. After years of being seperated at school. Jack built a life as a rider. He trained each day without fail and succeeded in training his sister in law in the same sport. RCB on the other hand, spent countless times at parties and flamboyant events which meant the world to him and his best friend William. The only time he actually worked was for his passion at show jumping. Orginally RCB and William had already been chosen to be in the England show jumping Team. It was not untill a show jumping event close to the 1988 Olympics where Jack Lovell finally got selected as Team Reserve.
Jack proved himself on the show jumping grounds given the chance to succeed. His performance was outstanding when comparing his experience on the international show jumping scene. There was much sadness is horses being tortured and horses being used in Riders. Jack lost 'revenge' to RCB. Jack's In Laws were displeased with him and sold 'revenge' to RCB. Revenge was a very dear horse to Jack.
Nevertheless with family squabble happening at the same time as the calling for England, Jack Lovell became Champion in the end. RCB may have won the final medal, but Jack won all the women.
In my brief explanation on Riders by Jilly Cooper, I have not included the scenes where extreme lovemaking were reported. You can get this is any chick flick book at Borders.
Jack not only got to be married to the love of his life, he even had the honour of fixing the almost failed marriage between Rupert Campbell Black and his wife.
When one offers violence and selfishness, the best gift is not retaliation but is indeed humility and thoughtfullness.
