It has been a lovely morning indeed after going through a summer course at a local college.I decided yesterday that I would pray at Regent's Mosque for today's Friday prayers. I got to the mosque around 12.30 ish and proceeded into the main praying hall. The build up was slow but somewhat gradual towards the end. I was sat at the front end of the praying hall listening to the Imam giving his Friday summons through the English medium and Arabic.
At 1PM, more Muslims poured into the Mosque and the line of prayer (safs) were full right to the end. The Imam continued to give his summons talking about Muslims and the way forward in this dreadful time of terrorism. Pointing fingers is not what we need but Muslims in this country are being tried over and over again exceeding patience of the norm. I remember seeing a strong Muslim leader being arrested by the local police for his alleged links with Al-Qaeda. Only Allah knows whether this is true. The man looked very religous and strong minded but the media caught him on film during an incident where he punched the camera pointing and recording his daily life. Is he to be blamed? He has lived in this country for the past 12 years according to the media and he is seeking a peaceful way of life. Why are Muslims being challenged in today's world?
At approximately, 1.30 PM - the call to prayers was given by the Bilal and we proceeded to pray Sunat Zuhur. Duly after, the Imam started his summons in Arabic to all Muslim men and women present. I continued to listen deligently.
Suddenly at 1.38 PM there was a huge uproar from the back of the safs. I heard men and women shouting from the back. As soon as I turned away to glimpse at the scene, there was a gigantic unseen force rolling the Muslims into one. There were at least 60 to 100 safs at Regent's Mosque. I felt as if we were all going to die. Thank God we did not.
Most of us ran towards the exit as we all panicked. The Imam stood his ground and calmed us during the ordeal. The unseen force hit us with a surprise and apparently was blamed on 1 man whom allegedly barged into the mosque carrying a bag saying ' I applogise'. Several minutes later, there was an announcement that the 'sick individual' has been uprehended in the security room. It is assumed that the 'sick man' was carrying a bomb in his bag which apparently caused people to panick. Having said that, there is no evidence to support his claim. The police later arrived and transported the 'sick man' away from the mosque.
During this period of panick, the local uniformed police took control of the gates and the security room within Regent's Mosque. The crowd was asked to move out of the mosque to clear their way for this '1 sick man'. Muslims alike were all using their mobile cameras and some used even camcorders to record the 'sick man' being transported into a police vehicle.
It shows how easily public attention can be deviated to one factor. The real focus was undeniably the unseen force. I asked another Muslim named Ali on his view of todays ordeal, his words were ' if its time to go, its time to go'.
What I saw today was not the work of a single human being. What I saw today can only be the divine and clear evidence of the unseen created by the one and only god, Allah S.W.T.
May this be a warning to all believers, the day of judgement can be anytime. Let us embrace our brothers and sisters and be merciful amongst one another. For Allah loves us all InsyAllah.
