Given the fact that Malaysia has transgressed into a fully blown digital economy, one might imagine that such data services would be on par with the country's level of digital data.
TM Net is a sole dominant entity which has promised to deliver high speed internet access from 384 kbps to 2 mbps. This is clearly available at their current website http://www.tm.net.my/html/pstreamyx_more.cfm
Most of my colleagues including myself have been a customer to TM Net for several months now.
We are deeply dissapointed with the level of after sales service and technical assistance which is supposedly to be provided by TM Net.
Over the first few weeks, data connections were able to meet the advertised bandwith of 512 kbps.
This is the connection that most of us have subscribed too.
Over the past 1 week, data connections have dropped to as low as 40 kbps for a constant day.
6 independent telephone calls were made to their hotline at +1300889515.
The 1st phone call was simple, they logged in the fault report and troubleshooted by phone.
After 40 minutes on the phone with their scarcely qualified techie's they provided a fault report number. They sure take their own sweet time when it comes to putting VIP's on hold.
Second phone call was made, fault report number was provided. This phone call was made 5 days duly after the fault report was done. TM Net officer's promised a 3 day reponse period which they failed to comply.
The reason for such low bandwiths could not be explained by the officers and excuses as such as 'I need to check this with our technicians' and 'I need to check this with my superior'.
The most recent excuses when we called up were 'I don't have the information on screen or my server is down, we will call you back'.
It has now been a full 2 week period. Our connections are still at mediocre levels of 40 to 150 kbps on average.
Mind you, we are paying the full subcription for a 512kbps line which apparently seems to be upgraded to 1 mbps for free come November 1st 2004.
To sum up, TM Net should stop providing false advertisements when they do not possess the resources.
The Malaysia bandwith over copper telephone lines are so congested, which seems to be the underlying source of revenue for companies that promise false facts through advertising.
Companies like TM Net continue to expand with our hard earned monies paid into their corporate accounts which probably is tax exempted due to a tax relief and us consumers are left with snail like digital data connections.
Malaysia Boleh? This evidently has much to say to the contrary.
ZZ.
